Connection and Talk Therapy Helps to Move People Past Being Stuck
COUNSELLING INVITES CHANGE BY BREAKING CYCLES
Escaping bad patterns can create space for a better quality of life.
The right question, the right moment, opens new doors.
Moving past the past allows for a whole new future.
We can develop skills to better manage the challenge in front of us.
What is talk therapy?
Honestly, it looks about like what it sounds like. It’s a conversation with a professional counsellor.
The counsellor listens and guides the client, helping the client to stay on track or topic, and sometimes asks questions.
What is talk therapy used to treat?
People commonly look to counselling to help with anger, anxiety, grief, loss, relationship issues, depression, phobias, bad habits or eating disorders, and more. If you are feeling stuck then talk therapy may provide some answers. You may not see something on this list that matches your experience and that’s ok too, we’ve worked with sleeping problems and nail biters, you can contact us as ask about whatever is on your mind. If you’re reading this page then it’s likely that counselling could be the right path to follow.
There are thousands of modalities in talk therapy.
And, there is no one approach that fits every client. One can think about approaches (or techniques, or modalities) as the vehicle that helps the client move out of being in a stuck place. There are many types of vehicles, all capable of hauling people around, and some vehicles are better in some situations.
We may use several modalities, or we might use one.
Every client is unique, and equally so is what works for them. Our counsellor training includes a variety of approaches: Person Centered Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, The Satir Change Model, Ericksonian Approaches, the list goes on and continues to grow.
The key is that our counsellor remains flexible and adapts to the needs and the strengths of each client, which can change even from moment to moment.
What modality gets requested the most?
Typically there isn’t an opportunity to define how work will be done, and the attentive counseller will listen to feedback about what is or isn’t working from the client’s perspective. One exception to this is hypnotherapy. Our clients are consulted about the possible inclusion of hypnotherapy because some people have concerns around its practice. Hypnotherapy is our most commonly requested approach and it is amazingly effective. We encourage you to look at our comprehensive hypnotherapy section.
What does a Zoom counselling session look like?
Zoom offers the opportunity to stay in the comfort of your familiar space while working with a counsellor.
We do not have any counselling videos available other than this silent sample. Quite simply, we won’t ask our clients to record a session for public display because that would risk their confidentiality. Working with an actor would produce an inauthentic video.
This sample video does represent what the client experience may look like over Zoom.
